Jamshedpur: Three-time MLA Arvind Singh quits BJP, set to contest as Independent from Ichagarh

Jamshedpur, October 23: Former BJP MLA Arvind Singh has announced his decision to contest the upcoming assembly elections as an independent candidate from the Ichagarh constituency. Singh made this declaration during a press conference held on Thursday at B.N Palace, Chandil, after officially leaving the BJP. Highlighting his longstanding connection with the people of the area, Singh emphasized his dedication to addressing local issues and supporting the community.

Singh, who has represented Ichagarh in the Assembly three times, expressed his dissatisfaction with the BJP, accusing the party of promoting nepotism and favoring capitalists through opinion polls. He voiced confidence in the public’s support and vowed to win the election as an independent, citing his 35 years of work in the region.

Singh’s campaign priorities include addressing unemployment, promoting tourism, and providing irrigation for farmers to cultivate three crops annually. He also criticized the government’s failure to compensate those displaced by the Chandil Dam, calling it a “white elephant” and pledging to fight for the rights of the displaced, who have been waiting for compensation for over 50 years.

Singh has previously won the Ichagarh seat three times: once as an independent in 1995, on a BJP ticket in 2000, and with JVM in 2009. He believes this election will be a turning point against caste politics, and he is entering the race with renewed energy. Several other BJP members, including district executive members Deepu Jaiswal and Arun Singh, have also resigned from the party in solidarity with Singh.
