Jamshedpur, July 12: Tragedy struck on Tuesday morning when three children were killed on the spot as an oil tanker overturned near Jhangiburu Middle School under Manjhari police station area in neighbouring West Singhbhum district. The victims were identified as Sagar Tamsoy (8), Sukhmati Tamsoy (5) and Pano Tamsoy (6).
The mishap took place at around 10.45 am when the oil tanker after refuelling was moving towards Chaibasa from Jamshedpur. As the tanker was crossing Jhangiburu valley, it lost its brakes and the heavy vehicle started coming backwards. The driver lost control over the vehicle which later turned turtle.
The three children, who were students of Jhangiburu Middle School, a government school and were sitting at the side of the road were killed on the spot.
The driver of the oil tanker identified as Shankar Paswan jumped off the vehicle and somehow he could save himself.
On getting information about the tragic mishap, the Manjhari police reached the spot and recovered the bodies. According to an official, who visited the spot of the mishap, said they are investigating
On getting the tragic news, the agitated villagers rushed to the spot and put up a road blockade disrupting traffic movement for several hours. The agitators demanded adequate compensation for the victims.
