Jamshedpur theft: Cash and jewelry worth Rs 2 cr stolen from Sakchi house

Jamshedpur, Oct 9: Unidentified thieves stole away cash and ornaments worth Rs 2 crore from a locked house in Rajendranagar locality of Sakchi. The incident transpired this morning. The house belongs to businessman Ajay Modi who is on a trip to Singapore with his family.

Sources said Modi returned home in the morning and learnt about the incident. He went to his uncle’s house and inquired about the incident. His uncle said he had no information about the theft. Thereafter Modi went to Sakchi police station and registered a complaint against unidentified persons.

Modi said he had taken his family to Singapore and Vrindavan on 29^th September last. The thieves entered the house by cutting the grill behind the bathroom. They took away cash worth around 60 lakh and ornaments worth Rs 1.5 crore, said Modi.

Modi said his cook used to stay in the same house. He left with his family around 2.30 pm on 29^th September and informed his cook about his trip, asking him to come after his return.

Cops said the thieves had only laid their hands on cash and jewelry and they had searched all five rooms in the house. They have not ruled out the role of the family cook in the incident.

Police are looking for CCTV footage to get clues about the burglary. They claimed the case would be solved soon.

ASP Sudhanshu Jain and officer-in-charge of Sakchi police station Sanjay Kumar visited Modi’s house and led the investigation. Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Vijay Anand Moonka, Suresh Sonthalia and Om Prakash Ringasiya also visited Modi’s house and expressed concern over rising theft incidents in the city.
