Chaibasa: Villagers bid a tearful adieu to Havildar Manohar Kunkal, posted in the security of Amarnath cave,who had died of heart attack. He was cremated with military honors at his native village Dokatta in Manjhari block of West Singhbhum district on Friday. Kargil war hero Manohar Kunkal died on Monday due to a heart attack in the line of duty in Amarnath, Jammu and Kashmir.
After four days the body of the jawan died in his native village Dokatta village of Manjhari block. A pall of gloom descended over the village. Earlier, tributes were paid to him by the general public at the Post Office Chowk in Chaibasa. The villagers raised slogans of Jai Hind, Jai Jawan. The body was taken to his village under the leadership of SDPO Dilip Khalko and SDO Shashidra Kumar Badaik. He was cremated with military honours.
With the arrival of the dead body, the family members in his native village burst into tears. His family included his first wife Sunita Kunkal, second wife Shobha Kunkal and two children. Apart from the jawan’s sister Munni Kunkal, many of his relatives had also reached.
As soon as the body of the jawan reached Dokatta village of Manjhari block, the villagers including the family were in a bad condition. The villagers kept shouting slogans in praise of the jawan. Villager Munda Ramesh Kunkal said that there is a wave of mourning among the people of the entire block level on the death of Manohar Kunkal, which led to the Kargil war. He was known to be one of the inspirations for this field. There is deep mourning in the area on his death. His statue will be installed on the main square of the village, so that the coming generation remembers his contribution and remains ahead in the service of the country. His contribution can never be forgotten and he is proud of the tribal society.
Tributes were also paid to the dead body by offering flowers with moist eyes at Chaibasa Post Office Chowk. The people present with reverence raised the slogan of Indian soldier Zindabad, Shaheed Manohar Kunkal Amar Rahe. Former BJP District President Sanjay Pandey, BJP District General Secretary Pratap Katiyar, Bablu Sharma, Dilip Saw, Chandramohan Tiu, Anant Shayanam, Rahul Caravan, Rajesh Khandelwal, Vikas Sharma, Sanjay Akhara, Mukesh Jogi, Vanshi Yadav, Nitin Bishwakarma, Pawan Vansal, Deepak Balmuchhu and others were present.
During the last rites, Majhgoan MLA Niral Purti arrived to pay homage to the martyr jawan. The MLA paid tribute to the martyr jawan according to tribal tradition and met his family members and assured all possible cooperation. Sadar Chaibasa Sub-Divisional Officer Shashindra Badaik, Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dilip Khalkho, Block Development Officer of Manjhari, Station House Officer and mourning villagers were present in the last rites. The officer met the family members of the martyr and consoled them and assured them of all possible help.
