Jamshedpur: Tata Power’s Jojobera plant leads innovation and sustainability with ground-breaking initiatives

Jamshedpur:  Jojobera Power Plant of Tata Power, has been implementing some ground-breaking initiatives at its facility in a step towards fostering innovation, and operational excellence. In collaboration with GE, the Jojobera facility has deployed DE-NOx System, featuring the cutting-edge DB+ controller. This innovative system not only significantly reduces NOx emissions, but also optimizes combustion, thus offering a dual benefit of enhanced NOx abatement and improved combustion efficiency, ultimately contributing to a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions. In the preparation for the evolving energy landscape, Jojobera facility has successfully tested 40% technical minimum load operations. This forward-thinking approach reflects Tata Power’s commitment to ensuring adaptability and resilience in the face of increasing renewable energy penetration. Prioritizing safety, Jojobera plant has demonstrated its commitment to a secure working environment by implementing cutting-edge Robotic Power Isolation in the 6.6 KV switchgear, eliminating exposure to high risks.

The Jojobera plant has also recently received some accolade for setting a benchmark in the industry.

Environmental Excellence: Jojobera plant, has received the “Best Water-Efficient Plant” award from the Council of Environmental Excellence, underscoring Tata Power’s commitment to sustainable water practices

Technological Leadership: The plant has also earned the Platinum Award in the 10th CII-IQ National Practice Competition for pioneering the adoption of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies with UPTIME AI.

Exemplary Safety Practices: Industrial Energy Ltd, a Tata Power venture, secured the CII ER Excellence Award in the Large Scale Manufacturing category (employees less than 400). This accolade reinforces Tata Power’s steadfast commitment to Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) practices.

Tata Power’s Jojobera plant had initiated its operations in the state with the acquisition of a 67.5 MW coal-based captive power unit from Tata Steel. Driven by the vision to meet the escalating energy needs of Tata Steel, Tata Power embarked on a journey of expansion at the Jojobera plant. The plant supplies electricity to city of Jamshedpur and Tata Steel’s plant. The plant remains at the forefront of innovation, pushing the boundaries of sustainable and advanced energy practices.
