Jamshedpur Talent Soars to New Heights, NIT alumnus Ashish Kumar Sharma Contributes to Mission Chandrayaan-3

Jamshedpur: In a historic milestone for Indian space exploration, 30-year-old Ashish Sharma, an alumnus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur, played a crucial role in the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram Lander on the lunar surface. Hailing from Jamshedpur, Sharma’s journey from a young student at Sister Nivedita School and Netaji Subhash Public School to becoming a scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been marked by dedication, hard work, and a passion for space.

Ashish’s fascination with space and technology was evident from an early age. He completed his 10th grade education at Sister Nivedita School, where teachers remember him as an inquisitive and motivated student. His thirst for knowledge and determination led him to excel in his studies, eventually securing a spot at Netaji Subhash Public School for his 12th grade education in Pokhari.

His proud father, Kanheya Sharma, who is into a private job said that it is a matter of pride for the entire family and city. He said that his son is always doing something for the Nation. It was during his time at NIT Jamshedpur that his talents truly began to shine. Graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, he demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for problem-solving and innovation. His time at NIT not only equipped him with technical skills but also instilled in him a strong sense of commitment to contribute to India’s scientific advancements. He applied at ISRO and bagged the prestigious job.

Upon joining ISRO as a scientist, Ashish Sharma was assigned to the Tracking department, where his analytical abilities and dedication quickly caught the attention of his colleagues and superiors. His contributions to various space missions garnered recognition, and he soon found himself involved in the ambitious Chandrayaan-3 mission.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission, aimed at achieving a soft landing on the lunar surface, was a pivotal moment for India’s space program. Ashish Sharma’s expertise in tracking and his proficiency in computer science proved to be invaluable assets during the planning and execution of the mission.
