Jamshedpur, May 17 : Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has also come with a plan to motivate people shun use of polythene carry bags. In another innovative step, JNAC is inviting the citizens to take selfie with cloth bags while shopping. They can share their picture on helpline number (7635094335).
After a lucky draw, the top five winners will be felicitated. Special officer Sanjay Kumar Pandey informed that on the occasion of World Environment Day five top participants will be felicitated by JNAC with attractive prizes. The winners will get attractive prizes like mobile phones to boost their morale.
As the city gears up to observe World Environment Day (June 5), the civic body, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee ( JNAC) is taking several to spread awareness on the ill effects of plastic on environment. Meanwhile, city is all set to observe World Environment Day by organising a string of activities to celebrate the occasion across its locations and divisions to spread awareness about environment protection, sustenance and eco-conscious growth.
Activities like sapling plantation, besides generating awareness on environmental sustainability through various programmes will mark the observance of the World Environment Day.
A social workers said that with ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ as the theme for this year’s edition, the city is coming together to combat single-use plastic pollution. “Every year the world uses 500 billion plastic bags. Moreover, each year, at least 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the oceans, the equivalent of a full garbage truck every minute.
In the last decade, we produced more plastic than in the whole last century 50 percent of the plastic we use is single-use or disposable. We buy one million plastic bottles every minute Plastic makes up 10 per cent of all of the waste we generate. Steps should be taken to stop the menace.
