Jamshedpur sweats it out despite winter chill

Jamshedpur, Dec 14: Winter chill couldn’t hamper the spirit of Steel City residents as more than 4700 registered candidates, including dignitaries from Tata Steel, employees from other companies, students from various institutions and schools and media personnel, came out on Sunday to participate in Jamshedpur Run-a-thon, a 10km ‘Run for Fun’. A crowd of people from different walks of life cheered for them, including Deepika Kumari and Jayanta Talukdar.

There were different events for various categories of runners. Apart from the 10 km run for elite runners(open to all), where T. V. Narendran was one of the participants, there was a 7 km run for corporate and institutions, a 5 km run for school children and a run for differently-abled Champions.

The winners for the event included: In 10Km Men – Yogender Kumar, Veerendra Kumar, Santosh Kumar, Guddu Yadav, Pinto Kumar Yadav respectively. In 10Km Women – Rooma Devi, Shayamali Singh, Fulan Khatun, Balmati Yadav, Namita Kabat respectively. In 7Km Men – Arjun Tudu, Goutam Kumar Mahato, Ray Baskey, Mukund Banra, Tribhuwan Hembram respectively. In 7Km Women – Shipra Sarkar, Sumati Das, Sona Kumari, Sunita Hembram, Deepamoni respectively.

In 5Km Men – Bablu Tudu, Panturam Mandi, Suraj Khalkho, Khela Soren, Birsha Hessa respectively. In 5Km Women – Shahnaj Parveen, Puja Kumari, Seetal Kumari, Dulari Baskey, Geeta Kumari respectively. The prize money for the events was as follows: 10Km Men & Women (Separate for both) – Rs. 51000, 41000, 31000, 21000 & 11000 for the first 5 winners respectively. 7Km Men & Women (Separate for both) – Rs. 25000, 20000, 15000, 10000 & 7500 for the first 5 winners. 5Km Boys & Girls (School children)(Separate for both) – Rs. 10000, 8000, 7000, 6000 & 5000 for the first 5 winners. Ms. J. Kerketta, D.S.P. Traffic, Jamshedpur and her team made special efforts to ensure that the runners have an undisturbed path to run along the entire route. After all the races were over, Mr. T.V. Narendran also inaugurated the newly formed gallery for sports history and archives, ‘Action Replay’, at the JRD Sports Complex.

The event was attended by government officials like Dr. Amitabh Kaushal, I.A.S., D.C., East Singhbhum, Shailendra Kumar Sinha, I.P.S., Rural S.P., East Singhbhum and Prem Ranjan, S.D.O., Jamshedpur. Tata Steel dignitaries present at the event were T. V. Narendran, M.D. , Mrs. Ruchi Narendran, Dr. J. J. Irani, Ex-M.D., Mrs. Daisy Irani, Dr. T. Mukherjee, A. M. Misra, Mr. Sunil Bhaskaran, Vice President Corporate Services, Suresh Dutt Tripathi, Vice President Human Resource Management, Suresh Kumar, Vice President Shared Services, Rajiv Kumar, Vice President KPO Operations, M. C. Thomas, General Manager OMQ and Lt. Gen. Dr. G. Ramdas, General Manager Medical Services among many others. M.D.s of Tata Steel sister companies like Tarun Daga and Neeraj Kant also participated and led their teams by example.

Best Medical Graduate 2014 in MBBS Shikha Anand being felicitated during ‘Punarmilan 2014’ organised at Rajendra Medical Institue of Medical Sciences (RIMS) auditorium in Ranchi on Sunday.
