Jamshedpur, Sep 14: Narbheram Hansraj English School (NHES) , hosted the Zonal Declamation Contest (Junior Category). It provided an opportunity to students of Std 1X and X to showcase their oratory skills. Students delivered speeches of well-known personalities like Charlie Chaplin, Oscar Wilde to name a few. Students replicated legends like William Blake, Rudyard Kipling, John Steinbeck and others.
21 reputed schools participated in the event held virtually.
DBMS English School student (William Blake) bagged the first prize, Little Flower School student (Rudyard Kipling) was crowned runner-up while Hill Top School student (John Steinbeck) was third.
NHES principal Paramita Roy Chaudhury said, “Today, rather than a narrow focus on rhetoric, declamation is designed to express through articulation, emphasis and modulation of voice the full sense of the text being conveyed.”
The contest was judged by 4 august personalities- Dr. Nira Konar (Associate Professor of English & HOD Humanities in the College of Engineering and Management, Kolaghat), Prof. Giridhar Ramachandran (Assistant Professor, Marketing analytics and marketing research, XLRI, Jamshedpur), Lalita Sareen (Initiative Director of Mount Litera Zee School, Jamshedpur) and Jayanti Banerjee Das ( Associate Professor, RICS School of Built Environment in collaboration with Amity University)
Earlier, the school Principal, Paramita Roy Chaudhury, welcomed the judges and the participants. She emphasized that participation was more important than succeeding or failing.
The host for the event was Priya Bansal( Std. 10A ) who was assisted by Sakshi (Std. 11C ) and Inderjeet ( Std. 9B ) who delivered the Vote- of- Thanks.
Students, parents, teachers and members of the School Management Committee were present to encourage the participants. The event was conducted under the able guidance of the Principal, Paramita Roy Chaudhury.
