Jamshedpur students explore science and heritage on ISRO Tour

Jamshedpur: The educational journey of 28 students from government schools of East Singhbhum district continued with an immersive experience into India’s historical, cultural, and educational heritage on the second day of their tour. The students, who are on a special visit to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Sriharikota, spent the day exploring advanced educational institutions and iconic heritage sites in Tamil Nadu.

The day began with a visit to Model School, Kovalam, Chennai, where the group observed modern teaching infrastructure, including state-of-the-art laboratories, smart classrooms, a well-equipped library, and innovative science education projects. The interaction between the Jharkhand students and their peers in Chennai offered a lively exchange of ideas on academics, co-curricular activities, and sports participation. The school management provided detailed insights into the local education system, innovation-driven teaching methodologies, and practical science-based learning models.

In the latter half of the day, the students stepped into history as they visited the famed UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mahabalipuram. Under the guidance of officials from the State Museum and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the group explored the Mahabalipuram Fort, Museum, ancient temples, and the famed Tiger Cave. The Tiger Cave, a rock-carved temple from the Pallava dynasty, captivated the students with its intricate sculptures and unique representation of early South Indian architecture. The visit offered an engaging perspective on the rich cultural legacy and architectural brilliance of the region.

Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi lauded the initiative, stating that such educational tours bridge the gap between textbook learning and real-world experience. “This opportunity not only provides practical exposure to science, history, and culture but also fosters curiosity and broadens the perspective of young minds. The students’ exposure to esteemed institutions like ISRO, innovative schools, and culturally significant sites such as Mahabalipuram will undoubtedly enrich their knowledge and outlook,” he said.

The tour, aimed at inspiring young learners towards science and instilling pride in India’s cultural heritage, will continue with further visits to significant institutions and landmarks in the coming days.
