Jamshedpur, Oct 21: To ensure clean and peaceful elections, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishore Kaushal conducted a surprise inspection at the Kesharpur interstate check post on Monday. This initiative comes as part of the tight security arrangements implemented in East Singhbhum district for the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections, focusing on preventing the use of money and liquor to influence voters.
During the inspection, SSP Kaushal reviewed the vehicle checking register maintained by the deputed magistrate and police force. He emphasized the need for thorough checks on all vehicles, especially those traveling from West Bengal. Kaushal instructed the magistrate and police officers to meticulously inspect both small and large vehicles, including cargo trucks, to ensure that no objectionable material or illegal cash passes through the check post. He reiterated that any suspicious items found should be seized immediately, and the district administration must be notified without delay. Present at the inspection were Galudih police station in-charge Kumar Indresh and other administrative and police officials.
The police team has established rigorous checks for vehicles traveling from Bengal via the Galudih-Narsinghpur route. During these operations, significant cash amounts were recovered from multiple vehicles, including Rs 94,900 from a pickup van registered in Koderma and Rs 2,36,500 from another pickup van belonging to Naseeb Mallick from Bankura, West Bengal. Additionally, Rs 2,39,600 was seized from a pickup van owned by Srikant Jena from Baharagora, along with Rs 1,10,000 and Rs 1,00,000 from two other vehicles. However, after presenting valid documentation, the drivers of the latter two vehicles were released.
Police administration raids Ghaghidih Central Jail
Jamshedpur, Oct 21: To tighten security protocols, the district administration, along with police forces, conducted a raid at Ghaghidih Central Jail on Sunday night. This operation, led by City SP Kumar Devashish, was initiated to enhance vigilance following a recent discovery of mobile phones within the facility.
During the raid, police personnel thoroughly searched all prisoner wards but only discovered gutkha (a form of chewing tobacco) as contraband. A total of 80 officers, including the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), and local station house officers, were involved in the operation. The action followed a previous raid in the MGM prisoner ward, which resulted in the seizure of two mobile phones, prompting further scrutiny within the jail environment.
