Jamshedpur sonography centres must follow rules strictly: Deputy Commissioner

Jamshedpur: A review meeting on the compliance of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC & PNDT) Act was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi at the Collectorate office. The meeting focused on the functioning of registered sonography centres, adherence to rules, and disposal of pending applications.

During the discussion, issues such as installation of new machines or buy-back replacements, new registrations, inclusion of doctors’ names, change of location of centres, and execution of pending applications were reviewed in detail. The Deputy Commissioner directed officials to ensure timely processing of all applications and to complete the verification of centres seeking renewal or fresh registration without delay.

Emphasizing the objective of the PC & PNDT Act, the Deputy Commissioner said that the law aims to prevent illegal practices such as sex selection and foetal sex determination. He instructed all registered sonography centres to strictly follow the provisions of the Act and to complete registrations and online entries on time. He also cautioned that strict action would be taken in cases of negligence or violation.

It was further directed that all registered centres should be inspected regularly and that any complaint or suspicion of rule violations must be investigated promptly, followed by appropriate action. The Deputy Commissioner also asked medical officers to intensify awareness campaigns so that the ban on foetal sex determination and the importance of preventing female foeticide are effectively communicated to the general public.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal, ACMO, DTO, DRCHO, and other concerned officials were present at the meeting.
