Jamshedpur: Son of vegetable vendor cracks NEET with AIR 12,484

Jamshedpur, June 14: In a heartwarming tale of grit and determination, Rohit Kumar, the son of a vegetable vendor from Jamshedpur, has achieved an All India Rank of 12,484 in NEET UG 2025 by scoring 549 marks. Despite severe financial constraints and personal setbacks, the 20-year-old student has become a symbol of perseverance and hope for thousands.

Rohit hails from a humble family of four, which survives on less than Rs 20,000 per month. His father sells vegetables using a handcart, while his mother is a homemaker. To support the family, Rohit and his elder brother ran a small roadside stall selling mobile phone covers. Yet, Rohit managed to devote nearly 14 hours a day to study for NEET.

A student of the Yakeen 2.0 Batch at PhysicsWallah, Rohit began his education in a government school before moving to a private school with a modest fee of Rs 800 per month. After Class 10, the COVID-19 pandemic forced him to work at a medical store, which sparked his interest in medicine. Unaware of NEET at first, he chose PCB in Class 11 and studied late into the night while managing the store during the day.

He appeared for NEET for the first time after self-studying through YouTube videos and scored 485 marks. Determined to improve, he joined PhysicsWallah’s Yakeen 2.0 batch, quit his job, and scored 619 marks in his second attempt. However, due to exam-related controversies this year, his final score settled at 549.

Rohit’s preparation journey was far from easy. He faced multiple illnesses that left him bedridden and even suffered a bee attack on his writing hand on the day of the exam. Yet, he remained focused, studying at a local library for long hours with the help of PhysicsWallah’s free resources.

Alakh Pandey, Founder and CEO of PhysicsWallah, visited Jamshedpur to personally felicitate Rohit. “Rohit’s journey reminds us why we started PW—to reach students who dare to dream, no matter their circumstances. His story is proof that with the right support and relentless determination, no dream is out of reach,” he said.

Reflecting on his journey, Rohit shared, “If not for Alakh Pandey Sir’s online batches, I wouldn’t have even dared to dream. Just like Sir had his sister, I had my brother. I don’t know if I’m Laxman, but he’s definitely my Ram.”

Rohit’s story stands as a shining example of how perseverance, support, and self-belief can overcome the toughest challenges.
