Jamshedpur, June 14: The south- west monsoon has set in over Jharkhand, though weak but on its arrival time. Announcing the arrival of monsoon, Patna Meteorological Office said Monsoon has set in over Jharkhand and it will grow fast in next 48 hours with rains. “A complete onset of the rains will take place after the next 48 hours,” said an official.
The cloudy weather was a welcome respite from the sultry and humid spell. The city and its adjoining areas had been experiencing intermittent pre-monsoon showers for the past few days. Weathermen said showers in coming hours would be a part of seasonal monsoon rain.
Officials at the regional meteorological centre at Alipore said, “The south-west monsoon has advanced into some parts of Jharkhand and Bihar. The monsoon first hit the Gangetic West Bengal before making its way into the hilly terrain of Jharkhand and Bihar.” The weathermen at the regional meteorological office in Patna also confirmed the onset of monsoon in parts of Jharkhand and Bihar. The duty officer at the Patna office said, “The Pune-based Indian Meteorological Department has officially announced the arrival of monsoon in Jharkhand and Bihar”.
Officially, the arrival of monsoon is declared when a place records nearly 3 mm of pre-monsoon rainfall for three consecutive days. The Chhotanagpur plateau and other hilly terrain of the state have recorded more than 3 mm rainfall for the past three days.
People, in large numbers, ventured outdoors enjoying the breezy weather while some youngsters preferred to get drenched in the drizzle. According to the meteorological department, chances are that these localised thunderstorms will greet the city tomorrow once again.

According to statistics available at the regional meteorological office, last year, the first spell of monsoon arrived in the state on June 16 while neighbouring West Bengal experienced it a day before.
