Jamshedpur: Six get life term in Rakesh Singh murder case

Jamshedpur, Nov 26: The court of Additional District Judge IX Sheshnath Singh sentenced six persons to life imprisonment in Rakesh Singh murder case of MGM police station area on Tuesday. He also imposed fine of Rs 20,000 each on the convicts, identified as Lakhu Tantubai, Sunil Rajak, Rajesh Gorai, Tarak Mukherjee, Rajesh Sharma and Mintu Yadav.

A total of 11 witnesses were examined in this case. Three of them were produced by the defence side. The case dates back to 7th October 2015 when the then BJP leader Rajesh Singh and his brother Rakesh Singh had gone to the panchayat at Sukna Basti in Mango for the resolution of a land dispute. During the panchayat meeting, both sides clash violently over the dispute. Assailants attacked Rajesh Singh and Rakesh Singh with canes and sword. Both brothers were taken to Tata Main Hospital. Rakesh Singh succumbed to injuries after three days.

Police had lodged an FIR against the accused persons on a complaint filed by Gopal Gorai. The accused persons had approached High Court and later the Supreme Court for relief. The Supreme Court gave them no relief and ordered disposal of the case in a fast track court.
