Flower Show reflects JN Tata’s vision of a green city: Ramam
35th Annual Jamshedpur Flower Show inaugurated at Gopal Maidan
Jamshedpur, Dec 28: Jamshedpur came alive with colour, creativity and community spirit on Sunday with the inauguration of the 35th Annual Flower Show organised by the Horticultural Society of Jamshedpur. The four-day event, held at Gopal Maidan, was formally inaugurated in the presence of eminent dignitaries, society members and a large number of nature enthusiasts.

The inaugural ceremony was smoothly conducted by Sukanya Das, Executive Committee Member of the Horticultural Society, who anchored the programme. DB Sundara Ramam, Vice President – Corporate Services, Tata Steel, attended the event as the Chief Guest, while Abhijit Nanoti, Managing Director, JCAPCPL, was the Guest of Honour.

Welcoming the guests, Sumita Nupur, President of the Horticultural Society of Jamshedpur, spoke about the rich legacy of the Flower Show, which has grown steadily over the past three and a half decades. She outlined the key attractions planned over the next four days, including a wide variety of floral exhibits, innovative landscape designs, technical workshops, competitions, cultural programmes and educational activities aimed at spreading awareness about environmental protection and sustainable living.

One of the highlights of the inauguration was the felicitation of Lifetime Senior Member V. Ranga Rao for his invaluable contribution and lifelong dedication to the Horticultural Society. His commitment and service were described as a source of inspiration for the entire horticultural community. The judges of the Flower Show were also felicitated for their role in evaluating the exhibits.

The Chief Guest and Guest of Honour jointly unveiled the souvenir of the 35th Annual Flower Show, marking the Society’s continued commitment to nurturing green spaces and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility in the city.

Addressing the gathering, DB Sundara Ramam expressed admiration for the quality and diversity of the exhibits. He said the Flower Show reflects the vision of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, whose dream of building a green and well-planned city continues to guide Jamshedpur even today. Ramam praised the efforts of the organising committee and stressed that preserving nature is a collective responsibility of citizens. He added that Jamshedpur should aim to become a carbon-neutral city by 2045 through sustained efforts in greenery and environmental awareness.

Guest of Honour Abhijit Nanoti also lauded the consistent work of the Horticultural Society over the years. He paid special tribute to V. Ranga Rao for his enduring contribution and remarked on the growing popularity of the Flower Show.

Comparing the enthusiasm of visitors to that seen during major sporting events, he noted that the increasing footfall over the years may soon require a larger venue to accommodate the expanding scale of the event.
