Jamshedpur shops sealed for violating Covid guidelines

Jamshedpur, Aug 25: Administration and police officials sealed about eight shops and showrooms at Bistupur on charges of not implementing the standard operating procedures issued by the government to prevent the spreading of COVID-19 virus infection.

NK Lal, Additional District Magistrate, Law and Order during a mask checking drive in Bistupur market and shops ordered sealing of showrooms of Aurelia, Killer and Kalamkari boutiques for 24 hours, while Ashok and Co (grocery stores), Modern Tailors and Anas Collection was ordered closure for 48 hours and Asoka Sarees (Kamani Center) for 72 hours.

According to sources, during checks it was found that several shops failed to provide handwashing facilities to the customers visiting their establishments and also did not insist the visitors wear face masks while doing the business. At some establishments the staff has also failed to wear the face masks.

The district administration has imposed restrictions in different areas in view of possibile third wave of Covid-19. A team from district police, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee ( JNAC) led a drive to sensitise people to wear face masks and ensure personal distancing while venturing out to carry out their essential works in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.



The team hit the streets at Sakchi and Bistupur markets to carry out surprise inspections to check whether people were wearing masks and also handed over masks to those who were not, even while explaining the importance of personal safety to them.

The team went to Sakchi market and various shops along that stretch checking whether personal distance was being maintained and people wore face masks.



Ravi Bharti, city manager, JNAC informed them that they inspected some outlets selling fruits and fruit juices and asked the shopkeepers to ensure protective measures at their respective outlets.

Those who fail to wear masks while venturing out are liable to pay a penalty, said the senior official. Shops and business establishments which fail to adhere to the government guidelines issued in respect of COVID-19 would be sealed, he said.

Traffic police have advised auto drivers to allow only those passengers who wore masks and ensure personal distancing inside the vehicles.

Moreover, since the management of the pandemic has lately become challenging for the administration, it has ordered shutdown in different areas.
