Jamshedpur, August 31: Following the directives of Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri, the district administration has initiated a comprehensive campaign against the sale of tobacco products. In the last 24 hours, raids were conducted in various urban areas under the campaign. During these raids, fines were imposed on several shops for violating anti-tobacco regulations. Fines amounting to Rs 3,200 were collected on Thursday from nine shopkeepers for possession and sale of tobacco products.
A district level workshop will be organized on Tuesday, September 5 to bolster the anti-tobacco campaign designed to create awareness on consumption of tobacco in any form was dangerous to health. The workshop will be attended by village chiefs, government school teachers and female volunteers from JSLPS (Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society).
This workshop, involving active voluntary organizations and experts working on the Tobacco Control Program, will provide information on the adverse effects of tobacco products on people’s lives. The anti-tobacco awareness campaign will have a special focus on youth to draw them away from substance abuse.
