Ghatshila, July 11: Cannabis or Ganja may have gained notoriety as substance misuse by addicts, but like many other known and unknown herbs, is laden with curative powers especially in cases of Parkinson’s affliction, bone, heart and Alzheimer’s ailments as well as its use as a hair growth tonic. Sujit Shiv Kumar’s 93 minute feature film, ‘Cannabis Diary,’ is a bold attempt in treading on otherwise overlooked grounds to bring to the fore the positive aspects of Cannabis as a powerful curative herb in its oil extract form. The film, produced under the banner of Shankara Motion Pictures, is expected to open the eyes of people who generally consider Ganja as an intoxicant. Made at a cost of Rs 30 lakh, the film has been extensively shot in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Mumbai. ‘Cannabis Diary’ has been produced by Jayshree Shiv Kumar and stars Suraj Kumar, Kanchan Singh, Manish Vishalla and Joginder Kundu from Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

Filmmaker Sujit Shiv Kumar spent his growing years in Musabani and currently is a resident of Adityapur in Saraikela-Kharsawan district. Director Sujit has himself written the script and edited the film. He has done a post production course at Pune.

Sujit revealed, “It is a very interesting story themed on the healing properties of Ayurveda. I have kneaded a story of a hapless daughter, Ayesha, trying her best to provide treatment to her father who is afflicted with Parkinson’s disease. The story has a blend of emotional relationship, crime and high drama. The songs are based on lyrics that underline the theme of Cannabis Diary.’’

During the chat with filmmaker Sujit Shiv Kumar on his forthcoming movie, Cannabis Diary, he further added, “Being at her wit’s end at the failure of allopathic treatment for her father’s Parkinson’s syndrome, Ayesha literally hunts for an effective cure for her aging father, she comes across an oil extract from Cannabis that is banned in India and several other countries but not in the USA. The oil extract, CBD is priced at Rs Five thousand for 10 grams in India. Apart from its curative values in ailments related to the heart, bone, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, CBD is also useful for hair growth. Frankly, the main reason for making this film is to make a statement on the curative powers of Ayurveda.”
