Jamshedpur (Mail News Service): Passenger train services on multiple routes under the South Eastern Railway have been cancelled for three consecutive days due to continued elephant movement along railway tracks, raising serious safety concerns for both passengers and wildlife.
According to railway officials, the cancellations will remain in force from January 7 to January 9 as a precautionary measure to prevent accidents in elephant-sensitive forest corridors. The decision was taken in coordination with forest authorities following frequent sightings of elephant herds near and across the tracks in the region.
Railway authorities emphasised that passenger safety and wildlife protection are top priorities. Continuous monitoring of elephant movement is being carried out, and train services will be restored only after the situation is declared safe.
Railway officials have advised passengers travelling to and from Jamshedpur and adjoining areas to check the latest train status before starting their journey and make alternative travel arrangements during this period.
The temporary suspension of services highlights ongoing challenges posed by human–elephant conflict in forested railway sections and underscores the need for sustained coordination between railway and forest departments to ensure safe rail operations.
