Jamshedpur sees highest single-day jump of 1043 Covid cases, 2 deaths

Jamshedpur, Jan 7: Jamshedpur’s daily Covid cases shot up today after 1043 fresh cases were detected on Saturday, January 8. Two people have died in the Steel City in the same period.

Jamshedpur’s positivity rate – the number of people testing positive for every 100 tests – has jumped to 8.14 per cent with the latest addition in cases. 12807 samples were tested on Saturday.

The city has been producing a tidal wave of cases over the past days and the surge is believed to be driven by the Omicron variant. The variant is highly transmissible, according to experts.

East Singhbhum’s death toll went up to 1071 after 81-year-old man of Mango Kunwar busti and 65-year-old woman of Ghatsila succumbed to the disease.

On Friday, 1043 cases were reported positive taking the total active cases in the city to 3504.

21 cases each have been reported from Bagbera and Golmuri, 46 from Baridih, 11 each from Birsanagar and Chakulia, 69 from Bistupur, 14 from Burmamines, 24 from Ghatsila, 28 from Jugsalai,

127 from Kadma, 64 from Mango, 1 from Musabani, 56 from Parsuidih, 2 from Potka, 86 from Sakchi, 18 from Sidhgora, 4 from Sitaramdera, 73 from Sonari, 6 from Sundernagar, 121 from Telco and 240 from different areas of city.     

The positivity rate rose to 2.73 per cent in Jamshedpur.

The cumulative coronavirus case count stands at 56263 and the death count is now 1071, according to the latest health bulletin.

The new cases came out of the 12807 tests conducted on Saturday.

There are 3504 active COVID-19 cases in Jamshedpur.

As many 51688 people have recovered from COVID-19 so far with 225 recoveries recorded in the last 24-hours. 12807 COVID-19 tests, including 4908 RT-PCR, 7481 RAT and 418 TrueNat were conducted in the last 24 hours in the city.

The district administration said it would go for aggressive containment and stricter enforcement of health protocols such as wearing masks and keeping social distance.

East Singhbhum district administration has conducted 774988 test per million in the district. The recovery rate in Jamshedpur is 93.60% while the mortality rate is 1.90 %.

So far in Jamshedpur 2067497 samples have been collected out of which 2063017 have been tested and 2006754 have turned out to be negative.
