Jamshedpur: Second entry to Tatanagar Railway station to be operational from next year

Jamshedpur, Dec. 13: The second entry gate to Tatanagar railway station from Burmamines end will be ready by February 2022. Sources informed that work has resumed at Tatanagar station to have a ramp and staircase to connect with the second entrance and the foot overbridge at the Chakradharpur-end of the station.

 The general manager of South Eastern Railway ( SER ) Archana Joshi, during an inspection at the Tatanagar railway station had said that the work was going on full swing and the gate was expected to be opened by January.

Meanwhile, railway officials informed that the second entrance will help passengers coming from Sakchi, Golmuri, Baridih and Telco areas of the steel city.  Funds to the tune of Rs 1.75 crore have already been spent for developing the second entrance, work for which began in 2010.

An official said that the engineering and commercial wing of Tatanagar was finalised after a joint  meeting. February second week has been decided for making the second entry operational in a full-fledged manner.

The second entrance will help passengers coming from Sakchi, Golmuri, Baridih and Telco areas of steel city for boarding trains at Tatanagar railway station. Around Rs 2 crore has been spent to develop the second entrance.

The Tatanagar station assumes importance as it falls  on the Howrah-Mumbai route. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express.

“Tatanagar is significant because it falls on the Howrah-Mumbai main line. It is the busiest passenger junction in the state and hosts around 80 trains every day. Dhanbad, which is a much smaller station, has escalators,” senior functionary of the passenger association U.K. Srivastava reasoned.
