*About Anni Amrita*
Anni Amrita is not only an experienced journalist but also an active public figure who contested the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections from the Jamshedpur West constituency.
Her long-standing engagement with social issues, women’s rights, and public service has contributed to her selection for this reputed programme.
She served for 17 years with ETV Bihar/Jharkhand/News 18 and another year with News 11 before moving into digital journalism in 2021.
Since then, she has worked with The News Post and Sharp Bharat.
Currently, she works as an independent journalist and is associated with the Bihar Jharkhand News Network.
Anni Amrita is also the founder of the YouTube channel ‘Kalimati Talks’, focused on meaningful social issues. She has authored two widely discussed books — “Ye Kya Hai” and “Main Indira Banna Chahti Hoon”.
*What is UN Women ?*
UN Women is the United Nations agency dedicated to promoting gender equality, women’s rights, and women’s empowerment.
It runs several global and national programmes to strengthen women’s political, social, and economic participation. In India, the organisation actively supports women’s leadership and participation in governance.
*What is ‘She Leads’?*
‘She Leads’ is a leadership workshop designed by UN Women for women working in public life, politics, governance, media, and development sectors.
*The programme focuses on:*
* Leadership skill development
* Understanding policy-making and political processes
* Communication and public outreach training
* Networking with women leaders from across India
*‘She Leads 3’ — The Third Edition*
This is the third edition of the ‘She Leads’ programme, bringing together emerging and impactful women leaders, journalists, social activists, and public representatives from all over the country.
*Two-Day Workshop in Delhi*
The workshop will be held on December 4–5 in New Delhi, where participants will receive guidance from experts, policymakers, and experienced leaders. The aim is to equip women with stronger leadership abilities to drive positive change in their respective fields.
*Relevance of the Programme*
Following the passage of the Women’s Reservation Act 2023, the importance of such initiatives has grown significantly.
With women making up only 14% of the current Lok Sabha, leadership development programmes like ‘She Leads’ are crucial in preparing women for political and public roles.
At the state level, most Indian assemblies have less than 10% women legislators, despite high participation of women voters.
In Jharkhand, there are currently 12 women MLAs. The number has gradually increased over the years — from 3 in 2000 to 8 in 2005, 9 in 2014, and 10 in 2019.
The selection of Anni Amrita for this national workshop is seen as a recognition of her contributions and potential to play a stronger leadership role in the future.
