Jamshedpur: Scolded by mother, DAV Bistupur student hangs self to death

Deceased’s mother is a teacher of the same school

Jamshedpur, May 21: In a shocking incident a 13-year-old boy, a Class VII student, committed suicide after his mother, who is a teacher in the same school, scolded him for not studying properly at Uliyan in Kadma. His body was recovered on Monday morning. The deceased, Amrit Anand, was a student of DAV Public School in Bistupur.

The incident took place at the second floor of Natraj Apartment on Vidyasagar Path along Tank Road in Ulyan. His body was discovered by the deceased’s elder sister Chhaya (16) on the morning.

The boy had used his sister’s ‘dupatta’ for hanging. Incidentally, the deceased’ mother Punam Singh is a teacher of the same school ( DAV Public School in Bistupur) and had gone to the school for attending a meeting at about 7 am.

Anand was elder among the two sons of Punam Singh and the daughter is the eldest among the three children. Punam’s husband Manoj Kumar died two years ago.

A close relative said that Anand’s mother had scolded him last night for not spending time on studies in the ongoing summer vacation.

” He was scolded for not concentrating in studies. After being scolded the boy had gone to the room for sleeping. In the morning, Punam left the home for the school at about 6.30 am. But as it struck 9, she knocked at the door of Anand’s room,” said the relative.

He said Chhaya repeatedly knocked at the door and as the knocks evoked no response, she got concern.
“Out of fear his sister then started pushing the door and ultimately pushed it hard, causing the door to open. She saw Anand hanging from the window’s grill. Instantly she started screaming, causing the residents in the neighbourhood to rush to the spot. They came and saw the boy was already dead. ,” said the relative.

OC, Kadma police station, Binod Kumar Paswan said that as soon as he got the information he came to the spot. “We rushed to the spot, the boy’s body was still hanging. The cops accompanied me brought down the body and after making an inquest I sent it to the MGM Medical College mortuary,” said Paswan.

The OC said Punam Singh was not in a condition to speak, but it was learnt from the children that she had scolded the boy last night.
