Jamshedpur, July 14: CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur organized a visit to the laboratory on 14th July 2023. This program was organized under the Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav Campaign. The program was conducted under the CSIR-Jigyasa Virtual Lab integration program. The main objective of the program was to establish connections with school teachers and students, to encourage the students and to make learning science interesting, and also to sensitize the students about intellectual property rights.

190 students from Xavier Public School, DBMS English School, and Xavier’s English School, Jamshedpur visited CSIR-NML. They were accompanied by 8 teachers from the same school.
The inaugural program started with welcome address delivered by Dr Mita Tarafder, Senior Most Chief Scientist & Head, of KRIT Division, CSIR-NML. In her address, she briefly talked about CSIR and elaborated on various research activities taken up by the laboratory.
Dr. Animesh Jana, Senior Scientist, and PL CSIR Jigyasa Virtual Laboratory Project delivered a lecture on CSIR-NML Jigyasa Program and the different activities taken up by CSIR-NML in Jigyasa Program.

The day-long program included a visit to some research laboratories like AAC, Creep, and Engineering workshops and visiting the CSIR-NML museum, archive, and library.
Students and teachers also participated in the lecture session on “Intellectual Property (IP) Rights-An awareness program for school students” organized by the RPBD Division of CSIR-NML on the same day. Dr. S.K. Pal, Chief Scientist & Head, RPBD Division, CSIR-NML addressed the school students and teachers. Dr. Sreeda P, Senior Scientist, RPBD Division delivered the lecture on “Awareness of Intellectual Property (IP) Rights” and Mr. K. Sudhakara Rao, Technical Officer, RPBD Division talked about “Make IP India”.
The Lecture session was followed by the Science Quiz session.
