Jamshedpur’s Jubilee Park Road shut for commuters, MLA Saryu objects

Visits park along with supporters

Jamshedpur, Aug 16: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy  on Monday objected to the closure of  the Jubilee Park Road by Tata Steel UISL, a Tata Steel subsidiary which looks after the civic amenities of Steel City.

The legislator, alongwith his party workers visited the park today after being informed that a drop gate has been set-up near the entrance of the park and that grass laying work was being carried out on the road.

After entering the park his supporters and the legislator himself started taking off the grass. The legislator refuted when he was informed that visitors, mostly morning walkers, are asked to produce identity proof before entering the park.

” It is really surprising that the Jubilee Park Road has been closed. It is meant for easy flow of traffic. It is meant for the use of local residents but it is said that it has been closed, ” questioned the legislator. He objected to any construction on that road that passes through the park.

The Jubilee Park Road was closed in March this year during the second wave of Covid. Though the state government while relaxing the lockdown restrictions last month had allowed re-opening of parks but Jubilee Park was yet to open for common visitors

State health minister Banna Gupta alongwith deputy commissioner of East Singhbhum Suraj Kumar and Jusco authorities had visited the park last month and had allowed entry of only morning and evening walkers.

It was made mandatory for those entering the park to show their identity, preferably Aadhaar Card. But, last week the district administration allowed entry to the park without any identified proof but the company continued to check the identity of the morning walkers which irked the legislator.

A gift to the citizens of Jamshedpur by Tata Steel on the occasion of its golden jubilee in 1958, the 237.75- acre jubilee perk, modelled after Brindavan Gardens in Mysore, is considered the green heart of the city.

Jubilee Park, one of the oldest and famous landmarks of Jamshedpur, had recently also restricted entry of vehicles in view of the rising cases of accidents due to rash driving, especially in late evening, and movement of anti-social elements.

As per the decisions taken there is no vehicle movement inside the iconic Jubilee Park  for convenience of visitors inside the park. No vehicles are allowed on the road passing through JN Tata Statue – Mughal Gardens – Children Park – Nicco Amusement Park at any time.
