Jamshedpur: Sacred Heart Convent claims Best School award at India Environment Meet

Tata Steel’s Meet spreads message on sustainable living

 Jamshedpur, Sept 2: In its commitment towards promoting sustainability in its areas of operations, Tata Steel organized India Environment Meet 2023 at Kudy Mahanty auditorium on Saturday. Rajiv Mangal, Vice President (Safety, Health & Sustainability), Tata Steel graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Earlier in the day, Jitendra Prasad Singh, Regional Officer, Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board inaugurated the meet. The event was organised in association with Millennium Institute of Energy & Environment Management.

During the occasion, Rajiv Mangal, Vice President (Safety, Health & Sustainability), Tata Steel, expressed his views, stating that the younger generation has a significant responsibility to promote sustainability. He emphasised that it is time for us to start practicing the concept of reduce, reuse and recycle, so that we are well positioned for a brighter tomorrow and preserve our nature.

First-ever India Environment Meet 2023 was organised to sensitise school children on topics like waste management and conservation of nature. The meet was aimed at enhancing the environmental awareness among the young generation. It also sensitised the school children on various environmental issues affecting the local, national, or global ecological balance.

More than 250 students of 17 schools from across the city participated. From poster competition, extempore to debate to quiz to essay writing to skits, these competitions mesmerised everyone who enjoyed thoroughly.

Sacred Heart Convent School won the Over-all Best School award for the first-ever India Environment Meet 2023. JUSCO South Park School bagged the best Skit award. Team Three Musketeers Sacred Heart Convent won the quiz competition. Sagar Kumar from Loyola School was adjudged winner of Debate Competition, Renu Mahato from Kerela Public School won the essay competition and Mugdha Jha from JUSCO School, Kadma bagged the first prize in Poster making competition.

Promoting sustainability, things like seed paper-based name tags, seed-based pencils and bio-fabric were used for the event.

Present on the occasion were, Surajit Sinha, Chief Agglomerates, Tata Steel, Pradeep Chaudhary, Chief Sinter Plant, Tata Steel, Indrajit Paul, Chief Pellet Plant, Tata Steel and members from Tata Workers Union and Environment Department.
