Jamshedpur: Sabar child enrolled in St Joseph’s School, DC signs as guardian

Jamshedpur, June 10: Orphaned Sabar girl, nine year old Somwari Sabar from Darisai Sabar Tola in Ghatshila Subdivision, was enrolled in Class-1 at St Joseph’s School in Golmuri. Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav signed Somwari’s application form as her guardian and presented her sets of new clothes and uniforms, study material, toffees and game sets.

Somwari Sabar lost both her parents to Tuberculosis in 2022. The DC learnt about the nine year old’s plight from news reports and went over to meet the orphan child at Darisai Sabar Tola. Both, Somwari and DC Vijaya Jadhav almost immediately developed an emotional bond. The orphan girl felt a mother’s love anew. The Deputy Commissioner had Somwari Sabar admitted to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Residential School. Later, in quest of a brighter future for Somwari, she shifted the girl’s schooling to St Joseph’s School in Golmuri. She also sent mangoes from her residence to the children of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Residential School where Somwari had commenced her educational trek.

The Deputy Commissioner has continued to shower motherly affection on the Sabar girl and has filled the void of parental love. The bond continued to grow in strength and on festive occasions, the DC used to visit Somwari at her residential school or arranged to call the child over to her residence where they spent a whole day together. Such has been the bond that has continued to flower even in a comparatively brief time span.

Vijaya Yadav, like a mother, sought ways to ensure better education for Somwari. She maintained a tag on Somwari’s studies through her school teachers as also from District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Dr Chanchal Kumari and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) District-in-charge Bindu Jha. With Somwari Sabar’s enrollment in St Joseph’s School at Golmuri, the DC thanked the management and faculties of Netaji Subhas Bose Residential School, Dr Chanchal Kumari and Bindu Jha for helping the girl adjust herself to her new environs. While describing Somwari as a very sensitive child, DC Vijaya Jadhav could not contain her love for the child. “Somwari should not feel paucity of love, affection and care.  Even the faintest touch of sorrow should be kept away from her as she starts on a new route to purposeful living. The way Somwari is adapting herself to changes is a sign that she will shine and make her district and state proud.”
