Jamshedpur, Nov 22: Cash worth Rs 3 lakh was withdrawn by fraudsters after a card got stuck in the ATM of the Canara Bank located near the Rajendra Vidyalaya in Sakchi. The amount was withdrawn from the account of Santosh Kumar Sharma, a resident of Baghbera, whose card had got stuck in the ATM midway through a transaction.
Sharma has registered a complaint in the Sakchi police station against the manager of Canara Bank, Ranjit Banerjee and ATM in-charge Manish Praful. Sharma told the police that the incident took place on the morning of November 6. Sharma went to the ATM to withdraw Rs 5,000 at 9:20 am but his card got stuck in the machine and the transaction could not be completed.
According to Sharma a person who was standing outside the ATM cubicle along with some others told him to consult officials at the Canara Bank branch situated nearby. Sharma heeded his advice and went to the bank but before he could get help he got a message on his mobile phone that a sum of Rs 3 lakh was withdrawn from his account.
When Sharma rushed back to the ATM, it was deserted. The people who were standing outside the cubicle and the person who had suggested that he should seek help from the bank officials were nowhere to be seen.
Sharma then approached the Sakchi police and registered a complaint against the two bank officials. Police officials probing the case later visited the ATM to ascertain Sharma’s claims. Sharma told the police officials that when he had approached Banerjee about the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3 lakh from his account, the bank manager had claimed that Praful should be consulted as he was the ATM in-charge. Sharma has told the police that the bank officials did not resolve his complaint.
