Irregular parking, drunken driving and lack of traffic sense cause of mishaps

Seraikela, May 8: Streets of Seraikela have become death trap. All the main roads of Seraikela are proving to be risky.

It also includes Chowka-Kandra, Seraikela-Tata road, Seraikela-Chaibasa road, Seraikela-Kharsawan road and Rajnagar main road.

Accidents figures  reveal that there have been 222 road accidents in Seraikela from January 2021 till now. 180 people have lost their lives in this. Even after that, people are losing their lives in road accidents every day till the month of May.

People have lost their lives in several accidents in the recent months, especially on the Tata-Kandra-Seraikela and Chowka-Kandra-Seraikela roads. In this sense, in 15 months the death toll in the district has come close to touching two hundred. Despite this, due to the number of small and big vehicles moving randomly on the road and no improvement in the traffic system, there will be a risk of accidents in the future.

There was a time when the Seraikela-Kandra road was in a dilapidated condition. Even during that time, road accidents used to happen every day, in which many people lost their lives and many people got seriously injured. During that time, only the dilapidated road was held responsible for the accidents. Then the situation was such that the local people under the banner of Jan Kalyan Morcha, a social organization of Adityapur, staged agitation for a long time. Even legal battles were fought. As a result, the Adityapur-Tata-Kandra four-lane road was constructed. Despite this, there has been no reduction in road accidents in the district.

The haphazard parking of vehicles on the main road across the district has also become a cause of great trouble. Especially, heavy vehicles are parked in front of roadside hotels and dhabas.

In all 98 people have died in the last 16 months due to hitting with vehicles parked on the roads of the district. Majority of such accidents have occurred on Tata-Kandra, Seraikela-Chaibasa road besides Seraikela-Kandra, Chowka-Kandra and Rajnagar-Hata road.

The district administration is making continuous efforts to prevent these accidents. Even the traffic police and road safety committee are trying to prevent accidents. For this, 32 black spots have been identified across the district. So that people should be alert while driving. Nevertheless, the lack of control over road accidents proves somewhere that all the measures taken by the district administration so far are proving to be insufficient.
