Jamshedpur, May 12: Five persons were killed while 12 others suffered serious injuries after a mini truck rammed into a divider at Chilgu Bridge on the National Highway 33 in Chandil police station area in Seraikela-Kharsawan on Thursday.

The victims were rushed to MGM Hospital with the help of local villagers. The condition of four victims was critical, police said.

The deceased were identified as Sunil Singh Munda (22), Shankaradih, Shailendra Machua (25) Daruda, Tola Nimdih, Bhim Singh Munda (14) Daruda, Tola Neemdih and Neelam Singh Munda (17) Daruda Tola Nimdih.

According to police, the mishap occurred around 4 pm. Three people died on the spot while two injured died during treatment. The injured victims include Sonu Singh of Urmal, Luv Singh Munda of Chowka police station area, Shailendra Machua of Daruda in Ichagarh, Shibu Machua, Budheshwar Munda, Ajay Kumar Mahato of Shankardih in Ichagarh.

One of the injured Shibu Machua, a resident of Daruda Village in Ichagarh informed that they were returning from a wedding function when the mini truck collided with divider on the bridge.

After the collision, the truck overturned, throwing the passengers apart on the road.

Shibu Machua said that the wedding function took place at Ramgarh near Kanderbera and the passengers were returning to Daruda in Ichagarh when the speeding mini truck hit the divider.

As soon as the news of the mishap spread the family members of victims arrived at MGM Hospital. On getting information about the incident, Chandil police arrived at the spot.
