Jamshedpur rivers still on danger mark, NDRF team deployed

Jamshedpur, Aug 3: In the wake of a cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rains have lashed Odisha, leading to the release of water from the Bayangbil dam. The impact of the downpour has been felt in Jamshedpur and nearby areas, causing intermittent rainfall. As a result, the city is facing a dual challenge of rising water levels in rivers.

Subarnarekha and Kharkai rivers, the major waterways coursing through the city, are currently flowing above the danger mark, raising concerns for residents and the district administration. To address the situation, the district administration has issued a high alert, urging people to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Deputy Commissioner, Manjunath Bhanjantri, emphasised the administration’s proactive approach in dealing with the escalating situation. Currently, residents in coastal areas have been safely relocated to mitigate any potential risks arising from the rising water levels.

“The administration has swiftly mobilized the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team, which has taken the lead in handling emergency responses. Working in tandem with local authorities, the NDRF is closely monitoring the situation and preparing to address any emergencies that may arise,” said an official.

While the water levels are reported to be stable at the moment, the district administration remains on high alert to ensure the safety of citizens. Authorities have advised people in coastal areas to move to safer locations to avoid any untoward incidents.

As of Thursday morning, the effect of the cyclonic storm in Odisha is gradually subsiding, providing some respite for the people of Jamshedpur. However, the district administration remains vigilant, keeping a close eye on weather developments and river conditions.

Despite the challenges posed by the heavy rains and the river surge, the administration assures the public that they are fully prepared to handle any eventuality. Cooperation from residents, adherence to safety guidelines, and swift action in the face of emergencies are crucial elements in overcoming this natural disaster.

While the situation remains under control, the district administration calls for continued vigilance and adherence to safety measures. The well-being of citizens remains the top priority, and the administration is committed to ensuring their safety and security.

As the cyclonic storm abates, the focus shifts towards managing the impact of heavy rains and the surge in river levels. Together, the administration and the community aim to navigate through these challenging times and emerge stronger in the face of adversity.
