Jamshedpur: Retirements makes Tata Workers Union poll interesting

Jamshedpur, December 7: Only one month is left for the elections of Tata Workers Union (TWU), the authorized union of Tata Steel. If too much time passes, elections will definitely be held in February 2024.

Tata Workers Union management does not want to take the risk of postponing the elections, hence the aim is to hold the elections by January and if it is postponed for some reason then the elections will be held by the month of February.

This time’s election is going to be very interesting. This election will be important in many ways. Three union officials will retire in the elections. Vice president, Shatrughan Rai, will retire on January 31 itself, that is, he will retire before the elections. But this election may be the last for deputy president Shailesh Singh and vice president Shahnawaz Alam because both of them will retire after about five years.

In such a situation, if one election ends then the next election will be held in 2027. In the 2027 elections, the jobs of Shahnawaz Alam and Shailesh Singh will be saved for two more years. If elections are held in 2027, then those elections will be held till 2030, in such a situation, those people will retire in between. Therefore, if both of them participate in the 2027 elections, then they will retire before completing their tenure till 2030 and by-elections will be held.
