Jamshedpur reports 810 new cases, death toll crosses 500-mark as 15 more succumb

Jamshedpur, April 23: Jamshedpur on Friday recorded 810 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 15  deaths. 

The second wave of Corona virus has wreaked havoc across the country. Jamshedpur has also been the worst hit due to the pandemic. 

The positivity rate rose to 3.86 per cent in Jamshedpur.

The cumulative coronavirus case count stands at 27987  and the death count is now 507, according to the latest health bulletin.

The new cases came out of the 4891 tests conducted on Friday. 

The best efforts of the state government and district administration will not pay dividends until and unless people themselves realize that the second wave is already knocking down human wickets and it is high time to take a defensive stance to avoid further blows.

Of the 810 new cases, 735 are from Jamshedpur urban area along with 40 from Musabani, 17 from Dumaria, 7 from Potka, 3 each from Patamda and Ghatsila, 2 each from Baharagora and Chakulia, and 1 from Dhalbhumgarh.

There are 5982 active COVID-19 cases in Jamshedpur. The infection tally in the Steel City has gone up to 27987 and a total of 507 fatalities due to the disease have been recorded so far.

As many 21498  people have recovered from COVID-19 so far with 356 recoveries recorded in the last 24-hours. Over 4500 COVID-19 tests, including 1299 RT-PCR, 3314 RAT were conducted in the last 24 hours in the city. The hotspot areas of the Steel City Mango, Kadma, Sonari, Bistupur and Sakchi continue to witness a virulent spread of COVID.

The district administration said it would go for aggressive containment and stricter enforcement of health protocols such as wearing masks and keeping social distance.

East Singhbhum district administration has conducted 272416 test per million in the district. The recovery rate in Jamshedpur has dropped down to 79.10 % while the mortality rate is 1.81%.

So far in Jamshedpur 736263 samples have been collected out of which 725171 have been tested and 697184 have turned out to be negative.
