Jamshedpur records 7.2 mm rainfall, IMD warns of hailstorm and thunderstorm

Jamshedpur: Heavy rainfall lashed Jamshedpur on Thursday evening, with the city recording 7.2 mm of rainfall, bringing much-needed relief from the sweltering heat. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for thunderstorms, hailstorms, and gusty winds across Jharkhand, warning of intensified weather activity in the coming days.
According to the IMD’s forecast, hailstorms, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph are expected in the southern and central parts of Jharkhand today. Meanwhile, the northern districts may also experience thunderstorms and winds between 30-40 kmph.
The situation is likely to worsen on March 21, with stronger gusts of 50-60 kmph predicted in the affected regions. The Ranchi Meteorological Centre has placed multiple districts on alert, including East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih, Dumka, and Jamtara.
The sudden weather change has affected temperatures across Jharkhand. Jamshedpur recorded a maximum of 37°C, while Ranchi saw 34-35°C, and Daltonganj reached 36°C. Chaibasa, in West Singhbhum district, reported the highest temperature at 38.8°C before the rain cooled conditions slightly.
Authorities have advised residents to take precautions against strong winds and lightning, urging people to stay indoors during severe weather. Farmers have been specifically warned to protect their crops, as hailstorms could cause significant agricultural damage.
With the IMD predicting more intense weather over the next 24 hours, citizens are advised to stay updated and follow official advisories for safety.
