Jamshedpur, Sept 10 : A chaotic scene unfolded on Wednesday morning near the Ghoda Chowk railway underpass in Jugsalai after sudden heavy rainfall led to severe waterlogging.
Within an hour of downpour, the underpass was inundated, and the strong water current swept several parked vehicles into a nearby drain, triggering panic among locals and commuters.
Police and administrative officials rushed to the spot after receiving information.
Rescue operations to pull out submerged vehicles began immediately.
Stranded passengers and drivers struggled to save their vehicles while traffic came to a complete standstill due to the flooding.
Local residents also assisted the administration in ensuring that those trapped were safely evacuated.
Local authorities urged commuters to avoid the underpass and use alternative routes until the water recedes.
Efforts are underway to drain out the water and restore traffic flow at the earliest.
Residents expressed frustration, pointing out that the underpass frequently suffers from waterlogging during monsoon but no permanent measures have been taken so far.
They appealed to the administration to find a long-term solution to prevent recurring accidents.
Fortunately, no major casualties were reported. Officials confirmed that stranded drivers were being shifted to safer locations as restoration work continued at full pace.
