Jamshedpur: Move to build parking space on Burmamines Durga Puja Ground sparks protest, BJP workers chase away Tata Steel staff

Jamshedpur: A wave of protests has erupted in Burmamines over the use of the historic Durga Puja ground for parking heavy vehicles. The ground, cordoned off by Tata Steel for purported beautification, has been turned into a parking space, drawing ire from local residents and BJP workers.

The ground, which holds significant cultural importance, has hosted Durga Puja celebrations by the Bengali and Bihari communities since 1935. Residents allege that Tata Steel had promised to develop a walking track and park on the site, but instead, the company began using it for parking, betraying public trust.

Local BJP leaders, including Rambabu Tiwari and Satbir Singh Somu, have voiced strong opposition. “This parking facility causes daily traffic jams in the area, posing a severe risk to students and others traveling to nearby schools and educational institutions. Accidents are just waiting to happen,” said Tiwari.

The protesters have escalated their opposition by organizing a sit-in demonstration at the site, demanding an immediate cessation of heavy vehicle parking. They have vowed to continue their agitation until the ground is restored for community use.

The issue has sparked widespread discontent, with residents accusing the company of misleading the public in the name of development. Authorities are yet to intervene to mediate the situation or address the grievances of the protesters.
