Jamshedpur, Jan 13: Sakchi-Station main road was blocked for hours by Burmamines residents after the body of a local youth was recovered from Kharkai river.

The youth, identified as Ashish Kumar, had jumped into Kharkai river from Adityapur toll bridge under Kadma Sunday afternoon. He was a resident of Kanchan Nagar in Burmamines thana area. The youth who was in his early twenties parked his bike along the road-bridge and climbed on to the railing of the bridge and jumped off.

Irked over alleged torture of the deceased by police over his younger brothers alleged love affair, the relatives and well-wishers of the deceased blocked the Sakchi-Station main road for several hours demanding stringent action against the errant cops.

The protestors burnt tyre on road and prevented vehicles to pass either way. They alleged that police had put pressure on the deceased and his family members after his younger brother reportedly eloped with a girl.

Police had allegedly warned Ashish of dire consequences in case his brother fails to surrender. Afraid of being tortured in custody and sent to jail, Ashish ended his life, protestors said.

Sources said an FIR was lodged against Sahil, younger brother of Ashish, with Burmamines police station on the complaint of the girls family members.

Police had visited the residence of the accused several times and pressurized his brother after failing to get him.

Burmamines police station in-charge claimed he had not tortured anyone and that he had only called the parents of the accused for questioning at the police station.
