Jamshedpur: History was made today at Dishom Jaher in Karandih, Jamshedpur, as President Droupadi Murmu arrived to lead the Ol Chiki script centenary celebrations. Welcomed by traditional slogans and a thunderous ovation, the President was joined by Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar and Chief Minister Hemant Soren to officially inaugurate the landmark event marking 100 years of the Santhali script.
The welcome for the President onto the dais was a deeply emotional and proud moment for residents of the Steel City. Students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), located in Bangurda, Patamda, greeted her with an impressive ‘Piper Band’ performance. Playing the National Anthem on their melodic pipes, the students filled the air with a sense of patriotism and discipline.

The President encouraged the students with a warm smile. The program commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. President Droupadi Murmu, the Governor, and CM Hemant Soren jointly lit the lamp to mark the official start of the glorious celebrations commemorating 100 years of the Ol Chiki script. This event honors the centenary of the script created by Pandit Raghunath Murmu.
The Steel City has been buzzing with unprecedented energy to accord a warm welcome to President Droupadi Murmu today. Since early morning, massive crowds gathered outside Sonari Airport to catch a glimpse of Her Excellency. Despite a heavy security blanket and the biting winter chill, residents lined up along the roads and near the airport’s main gate, waiting eagerly for her arrival.
The district administration has turned the airport area into an impenetrable fortress. While a heavy police force is deployed and extensive barricading is in place, the enthusiasm of the locals remains undeterred as they wait for the historic visit.
