Jamshedpur, June 4: Power supply in non Tata Steel areas is in shambles. The prevailing heat and humid conditions have added to the miseries of denizens of such localities. People have been deprived of sleep due to power failures and the conditions are such that students are unable to study. To add to the woes, the miseries have been compounded by water scarcity that has been going from bad to worse as water pumps cannot function without electricity. The pitiable conditions and inhuman conditions are prevailing in non Company areas including Mango, Bagbera, Jugsalai, Kitadih, Karandih, Parsudih, Birsanagar and Adityapur to name a few.
Prevailing summer heat and humid conditions have raised the demand for enhanced power supply but such needs have not been met due to several reasons. The problem of inadequate power supply is prevailing throughout the state of Jharkhand. As against a demand for electricity that currently stands at 2,300 MW the average supply is 1900 MW; the power supply for the district is 275 MW against need for 400 MW and this short supply crisis is reportedly due to technical glitches at the Tenughat power unit. The effect of the power supply crisis is being felt by the residents of non Company localities. Some such localities are facing power cuts between 5 and 7 hours. JBVNL departmental officials say that work is being done at a fast pace to restore normal power supply. They said that the situation will improve within the next few days.
