Jamshedpur power crisis deepens with short-supply from State Load Despatch

Jamshedpur, April 29: Several areas which fall under the command of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) in the city and its outskirts continued to suffer power crisis for the fifth consecutive day due to supply restrictions from Ranchi’s state load despatch centre which regulates power across the state.

JBVNL officials said that the short supply of power to the grids from the state load despatch centre (SLDC) coupled with technical snags at some places had led to the blackouts. Various localities serviced by JBVNL continued to face erratic power supply today too.

Both the major power grid substations at Golmuri and Gamharia were getting power supply much below their requirements.

Officials of JBVNL in Singhbhum area both the grid substations at Golmuri and Gamharia were getting less supply for the last few days. The Golmuri substation received around 30MW against the normal supply of 45MW while Gamharia got 70MW against the normal supply of 120MW.

Residents of several localities including  Mango, Jugsalai, Parsudih, Adityapur and Govindpur in the outskirts of the city complained of erratic supply.

” We are fed up with intermittent power cuts for the last couple of days. Humid climate has further aggravated the situation,” said Neelima Sanyal, a homemaker at Parsudih. While Sarabjeet Singh, a resident of Jugsalai quipped, ” There was no power in our locality from 10 am to 2 pm today. We had a miserable time.”

Several apartments in Mango could not pump in water into the overhead tanks due to the poor power supply for the past two days. ” As the power supply is erratic we are not able to pump water into the overhead tank. We are also confronted with problems of periodic load shedding which continues between two to three hours,” said Ashish Agarwal, a flat owner at the Dimna Road in Mango. 

“In most parts of the area electricity supply is not there and even in some of the localities where there is power supply it is irregular. The years old electricity wires and poles are in abject condition with incidents of power cuts taking place frequently in summer,” informed Mahesh Patel, resident of Mango.

With regard to electricity the scenario is far from improving as the large population is solely dependent on limited sets of transformers in the area.

The worst hit were Mango, Sundernagar, Parsudih, Govindpur, Adityapur and several other localities on the outskirts of the city. Residents complained they were being forced to deal with prolonged power cuts.
