Jamshedpur, Nov 3: A 23,157 strong crowd dotted every spot of the JRD Tata Sports Complex Furnace stadium to cheer on the Men in Red against their counterparts in Blue. In spite of the electric atmosphere the game culminated in a rare, exciting draw with both sides making breakaway moves only to be thwarted by the brilliance of both the goalkeepers Gurprit Singh Sandhu, a TFA cadet now representing Bengaluru FC and our very own Subroto Pal who ultimately was adjudged the player of the match.
Minoti Pradhan, an avid football fan observed, Gosh! It was excitement of the highest order. Though we naturally backed the home team, we also wanted to see Sunil Chhetri in action for the first time on Jamshedpur soil. He did make a few moves but was thwarted by our defenders and on top of it all by agile custodian Subroto Pal. We played on equal terms with the toughest opposition thus far.
A huge banner welcoming Chhetri actually spoke the minds of football fanatics of the steel city. After all, the countrys ace forward is second only to Ronaldo in scoring international goals followed by a magician like Messi. Sudhanshu Mishra opened up stating, The match, though it ended in a goalless draw it was far from tame. We were Tiri in the morning, Chhetri in the evening! the great centre forward did not initiate many moves but the ones he did were mind boggling. Kudos to our defense and salute to Subroto Pal for his excellent display in the art of defense.
Equally excited was Debnath Mukhi from Dhatkidih. What a match! I had joined the queue at 3:30 pm and got to enter after a two hour wait but it was worth it. Another 3 points would have taken Jamshedpur FC to the top of the league table but though slightly disappointed, I enjoyed the match to the hilt. Both teams put up gutsy fight and there were touches of brilliance. Chhetri did not live upto expectations but the few moves that he engineered were a treat for upcoming footballers.
