Jamshedpur police seize illicit liquor worth Rs 3 lakh

Jamshedpur, May 17: MGM police busted a racket dealing in illicit liquor by confiscating a pick-up van carrying 30 boxes of liquor worth Rs 3 lakh, police said, adding that two persons were arrested in this connection.

Those arrested were identified as Sikander Gope and Ravi Gope, cops said.

According to Mithilesh Kumar, officer in-charge of MGM PS, “We had got a tip-off about the accused persons carrying illicit liquor in a vehicle. We soon started a vehicle checking drive around 10 pm and stopped the van between Dimna Chowk and RVS Academy. During inspection, liquor boxes were found loaded in the vehicle. The accused persons said they were carrying the liquor from Jamshedpur to Patamada. Cops suspect the liquor was to be used during Panchayat elections, sources said.
