Jamshedpur: Taking a tough stand against noise pollution, the Jamshedpur Police launched a massive crackdown on modified bike exhausts this Wednesday. In a symbolic and literal display of authority, officials lined up 152 seized “heavy silencers” at the Sakchi Police Station premises and flattened them using a road roller.
High-Level Supervision
City SP Kumar Shivashish and Traffic DSP Neeraj Kumar personally supervised the operation at 3:00 PM. The police had previously confiscated these devices from various neighborhoods during a targeted campaign against reckless driving and illegal vehicle modifications.
Protecting the Vulnerable
City SP Kumar Shivashish explained that the administration prioritized the health and peace of Jamshedpur’s residents.
-
Targeting Noise Pollution: The SP noted that high-decibel exhausts cause significant mental and physical distress to hospital patients, the elderly, and young children.
-
A Clear Message: “We will no longer tolerate stunts and excessive noise on our streets,” the SP stated, emphasizing that the destruction of these parts serves as a warning to violators.
Pre-Ram Navami Vigilance
The timing of the crackdown aligns with the upcoming Ram Navami festival. To ensure peaceful processions and prevent chaos in crowded areas, the police are proactively targeting “hooliganism” often associated with modified bikes. By crushing the equipment now, authorities aim to deter antisocial elements from disrupting the festivities or causing accidents.
Ongoing Enforcement
The Jamshedpur Police signaled that this is not a one-time event. Officers will continue to:
-
Identify non-standard exhausts during routine checking at major intersections.
-
Monitor reckless driving and illegal modifications.
-
Seize both vehicles and unauthorized parts if owners violate traffic laws.
The administration concluded the event by disposing of the crushed metal as scrap and urged vehicle owners to stick to factory-standard parts and respect traffic regulations.
