Jamshedpur: Police have nabbed kingpin of a theft gang which used to move in an SUV to commit crime in city and nearby areas. Police arrested Md. Shahid alias Shahid Bachha from near Palang Market in Sakchi late last night.
SP (City) Prabat Kumar expressed confidence that arrest of Shahid would certainly bring down theft cases in the city. �It is really a major achievement for police. Shahid is the kingpin of the theft gang which moved in an SUV (Tata Sumo),� he added.
Police recovered two LED TVs. as many mobile phones and cash amounting to Rs 52,000. �Cash and mobiles were recovered from the thieve�s possession after he was arrested. TVs were seized from his residence in Tajnagar under Kapali TOP in Seraikela-Kharsawan district,� the SP (City) added.
According to him, Shahid and his gang decamped with the LED TVs, bed sheets and towels from Hotel Mansarorovar in Sakchi on June 8 last year
Four among the 7-member gang are in jail while two are at large. �Shahid�s arrest would lead us to the two remaining gang members who would arrested shortly,� Kumar said.
“We are concerned over the prevailing situation. We have decided that everyday one police officer from the police station concerned would keep an eye on the movement of constables deployed at different places under the system,” a police official informed. Besides, the police have been keeping extra vigil in residential colonies not only during night but daytime too.
Officials said that constables on foot would be deployed in a stretch of every one km for patrolling. Several other constables would be deployed for the purpose, besides patrolling by the local police.
Despite claims from the district police the cases of the thefts are on the rise. Steps have been taken by the police administration needs to curb menace by taking measures like night patrolling and installation of barricades where police officials keep strict vigilance.
Though the police claim to have pulled their socks up and increased their beat patrolling, the citizens are not ready to accept the claims.
