Jamshedpur: In a significant move to curb rising criminal activities and restore public confidence, Jamshedpur police has launched a sweeping crackdown against organized crime. As part of this intensified drive, 32 hardened criminals have been identified across various police station jurisdictions for stringent action under the Crime Control Act (CCA) — a preventive law that empowers authorities to detain habitual offenders for up to one year or extern them from the district.
According to senior police officials, the targeted individuals have a long history of involvement in serious criminal offenses such as theft, extortion, contract killings, assault, and illegal arms possession. Many are repeat offenders and have been operating with impunity, often evading arrest or continuing illegal activities while on bail.
“The law-and-order situation is a top priority. We are committed to dismantling criminal networks that are a threat to public safety,” said a senior officer from the East Singhbhum district police. “These 32 individuals have been identified based on detailed dossiers, previous FIRs, and ongoing surveillance inputs. They will be prosecuted under the Crime Control Act to ensure they cannot continue to instill fear in the community.”
The police have also released internal alerts to monitor these suspects’ movements and potential hideouts. The cases are currently under legal review before formal action is taken under the CCA provisions.
In a parallel action, 164 known associates belonging to over 20 active criminal gangs operating in the urban and fringe areas of Jamshedpur — including Mango, Sakchi, Sonari, Birsanagar, and Telco — have been placed under daily surveillance.
These individuals, many of whom function as foot soldiers, spotters, or extortion agents, have been ordered to report to their respective police stations on a regular basis. Any absence, breach of conduct, or involvement in suspicious activities will immediately trigger legal proceedings under preventive sections of the IPC and CrPC.
The police are employing a mix of field surveillance, electronic monitoring, and confidential informants to track these individuals’ movements.
The city police have reiterated a zero-tolerance approach toward crime and have cautioned that no political, social, or financial clout will be entertained as a shield for offenders.
“Let there be no illusion — anyone found backing these criminals, whether through financial help, shelter, or political influence, will face appropriate action,” the officer added. “We will not allow the social fabric of Jamshedpur to be torn apart by a handful of criminal elements.”
This bold stand comes after increasing public concern over petty crimes escalating into serious offenses, especially in high-density urban areas and commercial hubs.
To ensure sustainable crime control, the police have appealed to the general public to act as silent allies in this mission. Citizens have been urged to report any suspicious or illegal activities in their localities through confidential helplines or directly to police stations.
“We cannot do this alone. Community participation is vital. If people come forward and share information, we can act swiftly and decisively,” said the officer.
