Jamshedpur (Mail News Service): In a major late-night crackdown, the Mango Police successfully thwarted an alleged cow smuggling attempt near Azadnagar No. 2 area under their jurisdiction. The operation resulted in the seizure of a car and the detention of its driver.
Acting on a confidential tip-off, the police team set up a checkpoint and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JH05CC 1300. Upon inspection, officers discovered five cattle packed inside the car in inhumane conditions, raising serious concerns about animal cruelty and illegal transportation.
Further probe revealed that the registration number displayed on the vehicle was fake, leading investigators to suspect the involvement of an organized cattle smuggling racket operating in and around the region. The driver has been taken into custody and is being interrogated to trace the larger network behind the illegal trade.
Police have seized the vehicle, while the rescued cattle have been shifted to a safe shelter where they are receiving proper care and medical attention.
A senior police official confirmed that the case is being investigated on priority. “Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the masterminds involved. Raids are being conducted at multiple locations to nab other associates linked to this smuggling syndicate,” the official said.
The incident caused brief tension in the Azadnagar locality as residents gathered at the spot following the police action. Authorities have reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against illegal cattle transportation and assured strict legal action against those found guilty.
City police officials have appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to cattle smuggling to help curb such illegal practices in Jamshedpur.
