Jamshedpur, Jan 14: Jamshedpur remains on edge more than 24- hours after the sensational abduction of young entrepreneur Kairav Gandhi, with East Singhbhum police yet to secure a decisive breakthrough.
Despite sealing district borders and launching multiple coordinated raids across suspected hideouts, investigators are still piecing together the trail in what is being described as a meticulously planned crime.
According to family members, Kairav had left his residence stating he was heading to the State Bank of India in Bistupur.
However, investigators were stunned when his last known mobile location was traced to Sonari, while his car was later found abandoned near Kanderbera in Chandil — miles away from his stated destination.
The unexplained detour has become the central puzzle of the investigation.
Police are now probing whether Kairav was lured to Sonari by someone he knew or forcibly diverted by the kidnappers en route.
With no eyewitnesses or ransom call so far, the investigation has turned heavily technology-driven. CCTV footage from key corridors including CH Area, Rivera and the Sonari Link Road is being scanned frame by frame to determine whether any suspicious vehicle was tailing Kairav’s car.
Simultaneously, police have activated “tower dump” analysis to extract data of all mobile numbers that were active in Sonari and Kanderbera during the crucial time window.
Kairav’s call detail records are also under close scrutiny to identify his last contacts.

The manner in which the crime was executed has raised strong suspicions of a professional gang.
Kairav’s car was recovered with the ignition still on, while his mobile phone was found hidden beneath the vehicle — a move investigators believe was intended to delay real-time tracking through location services.
“These are not the actions of amateurs. The perpetrators clearly understood how digital trails work and took steps to neutralise them,” a senior officer said.
Police have also widened the scope of the probe to Kairav’s business and personal background.
The young industrialist is associated with six companies, and detectives are examining whether any corporate dispute, financial disagreement or disgruntled former employee could be linked to the crime.
In parallel, the physical verification of recently released criminals is underway.
Forensic teams have lifted fingerprints and other traces from the abandoned car.
While the city continues to remain under heightened security and checkpoints have been reinforced, the absence of any concrete lead has begun to draw uncomfortable questions about the effectiveness of the police response.
“We are treating this as a well-planned, daylight abduction after careful surveillance of the victim. Every possible angle — technical, financial and criminal — is being examined,” said City SP Kumar Shivashish.
As Jamshedpur waits anxiously for news, the fate of Kairav Gandhi remains unknown, and the pressure on the police to deliver results is mounting by the hour.
