Jamshedpur, July 26: Gudabandha police, acting on secret tip off arrested three persons attempting to smuggle precious emerald stone from Bhagabera. The police have seized emerald stones worth Rs Two lakh form the three accused smugglers.
DSP Chandrashekhar Azad informed that the three accused of smuggling precious stones included Kanpur (UP) resident Vivek Kumar Gupta, Jamshedpur’s Md Nizamuddin and Gudabandha resident Shyamal alias Siddheshwar. The police had been informed that two smugglers were with an illegal stone supplier and that a deal was on. The police had been keeping a lookout near Bhagabera village and the moment Vivek Gupta and Md Nizamuddin arrived there in a car, they nabbed the smuggler duo. Gudabandha police station OC Prabhat Kumar said that the three accused were transacting their illegal deal at Chhota Asti. After questioning them, the three were produced in Court and then sent to judicial custody.
It may be mentioned that Gudabandha is rich in precious stone deposits and mining for these stones in and around the area has been going on since long. Often, smugglers dealing in precious stones who came from Rajasthan, Odisha and other states had been nabbed. Earlier, extremists used to conduct mining operations in stone rich Gudabandha until in 2017, dreaded Naxalite Kanhu Munda and his team laid down arms and surrendered in 2017.
