Tragic Death in Jamshedpur: 6-Year-Old Boy Dies After Falling into Open Well During Vacation

Jamshedpur: A wave of mourning has swept through the Parsudih police station area following the death of six-year-old Shivam Kewat, who drowned after falling into an open well. The young boy had come to his maternal grandfather’s house to spend his school holidays, a visit that ended in an unimaginable tragedy.

A Vacation Turned into Mourning

According to reports, Shivam was a resident of Johadih village in the Seraikela district. He had traveled to Chota Govindpur to stay with his grandfather for the break. On Sunday afternoon, he went out to play with other neighborhood children. When he failed to return home by late evening, his worried family began a frantic search.

Rescue Efforts Fail to Save Life

During the search, locals discovered that a child had accidentally slipped into a nearby open well. The Parsudih police were immediately notified, and Station House Officer (SHO) Avinash Kumar arrived at the scene with a team to initiate rescue operations. Despite the combined efforts of the police and villagers to pull him out, the child was found unresponsive. Shivam was declared dead shortly after being recovered from the well.

This heart-wrenching incident once again brings the spotlight onto the safety of open wells and borewells. Despite strict Supreme Court guidelines mandating that all such structures be securely capped or fenced, these “death traps” continue to claim young lives due to administrative and civic negligence.
